At Italy’s biggest slackline festival, the International Highline Meeting, attendees (or slackers, as they’re called) showed how they love laughing at the face of death by doing stunts and taking photos as they balanced precariously on tightropes hanging above the Italian Alps. While those activities in itself might make most of us cower in fear, it isn’t until naptime that the real excitement begins. Attendees attached hammocks onto the tightropes and camped out, giving them a truly unique bedside view. Those brave enough to attend this festival were rewarded with stunning views and really cool selfies. For the rest of us sissies, I think a hammock at the beach would suffice, yeah? The attendees call themselves “slackers” because of the slacklines they balance themselves on. This extreme sport differs from tightrope walking in that the rope has a slightly flattened shaped and has slack, meaning that it can move side-to-side or bounce. Besides the fact that the slackers spend a good part of their days (and nights) on slacklines suspended hundreds of feet above the Italian dolomite Alps, the meeting has all the trappings of a normal festival a kitchen, a bar, and awesome musical jam sessions. Attendees can also attend a Yoga workshop or take tandem paraglider flights. ============== Video: http://youtu.be/LeXoCueayvc ================ http://highline-meeting-monte-piana0.webnode.com/ Welcome to the Dolomites Webnode The Highline Meeting on Monte Piana is the biggest Slackline festival in Italy! Monte Piana is one of the most beautiful sites to visit in the Dolomites, with its special shape and position that offers a spectacular 360 degrees view towards the most famous mountains around Auronzo di Cadore, Cortina d'Ampezzo and "Sextner Dolomiten" - Tre Cime di Lavaredo, Paterno, Cadini di Misurina, Sorapiss, Cristallo, Croda Rossa ecc. - and over the Lake of Misurina at its feet. Monte Piana is also a special site of memory and history of the tragic events of last century: the World War fought on the Dolomites. During the first World War the "Monte Piana" was right on the main front and over 15000 young soldiers died here. We discovered this mountain as a perfect place for highlining and wanted to stimulate this historic place in a different and new way. During the war soldiers of our age killed each other and sorrow, hate and fear dictated their daily life. The sound of granates and guns introduced the winter, but we introduce the winter with happiness, teamwork and a big passion for the mountains. This meeting brings highliners and mountain passionate people from all over the world together. The program during the meeting on monte piana is quite simple; highlining every day, supplemented by some highlights. - about 18 highlines, from 6 to 100+ meter lenght - highline competition "SLACK TRAIL" fun team contest, - slackline movies and presentations, - special guests from both old and new generations of slackers, - yoga and acroYoga workshops and many many more special things ============ http://highline-meeting-monte-piana0.webnode.com/photos/#montepiana-wahlhuetter-1-jpg 160 pictures by Wahlmutter. \============== High heel slackliner Faith Dickey carefully negotiates a thin wire high above a stunning landscape during the Womens Highline Meeting in the Czech Republic.
