THE YOUNG OLYMPICS' DREAM TOWER

The last of the presentations for the opening ceremonies of the 2014 Youth Olympics was the spectacular "Dream Tower".

A tower of acrobatic performers from the Chinese university in Hunan Province rose into the air in the middle of the stadium. A huge crane that stretched from the end of the field to the center held the cables to which they attached themselves.

Symbolizing the "building of the dream", one of the key themes of Nanjing 2014, a gravity- defying human tower reached into the sky.

The acrobats, all suspended on wires, broke into a beautifully choreographed mid-air ballet.

By linking hands and feet and pushing or pulling in unison, and with the help of cable guidance from the ground, they easily glided into a myriad of different formations.

The figures at the top of the formation in the following picture look like someone standing on his head with legs stretched out to the side, but if you look closely, you will see that the bodies and legs of the figures are made of of several of the acrobats.

The formation then lowered for more acrobats to climb on board, symbolizing that those who have dreamed the dream can then lift the rest of youth into their dream. All in all, the performance involved almost 300 participants, all of whom had trained for months for this one performance.

As they rose again, strands of light shot into the air, leading to an openin in the heavens.

Those strands of light then sent a shock wave outwards,

and the fire of youth burst into flames for a dramatic ending to the preformance.

TASKER"S NOTE: This performance was the most stirring of the opening cersmonies, and hopefully acted as enough of an attractor that viewers would not be drawn away from it by the complexity of the rest of the ceremony's activities. As mentioned in the feedback for the overall event, dividing the tasking into its separate parts and tasking viewers with a single aspect per session gives more detailed information, more understanding as to which aspect perceptions belong, and also makes complex targets much easier for the viewer to get more and better information. I hope that this worked for you.

The performance cannot be fully appreciated without seeing the video of the performance, that lasted 8 minutes and 14 seconds.
