SUMO RUN

Preparing for the run

Runners dressed in inflatable Sumo costumes prepare to take part in a 5km (3 miles) charity run at Battersea Park in London July 28, 2013.

The gathering

A good warm-up nnd stretch is important before any run.

So ditch your normal running clothes, say 'Sayonara' to the lycra, and throw down that stopwatch! Join Link Community Development's Great Sumo Run to raise funds to support their work in Africa. The run is held in London's Battersea Park every July.

A virtual sea of sumos can be seen running through the park for a 5 km (3 mile) run.

This is not a race, but a run. There is no time limit, no prize except knowing that you have aided children in an African village get a better education. Link Community Development International works to improve access to quality education in sub-Saharan Africa by working with all the stakeholders in local communities.

Link Community Development has positively impacted the lives of over 1.7 million learners in Africa since 1992.

Not only is it fun, but in the process, you meet a lot of like-minded people and hopefully, life-long friends.

Friends of all kinds.

Problems

Of course, there are always problems with any plan.

This year's Sumo Run will be held on July 25th.

You may register for the run at SumoRun.com .

How much does it cost to register?
First you have to decide whether you'd like a fundraising or a self-funded place! A fundraising place will cost just £25 but comes with a commitment to raising £150 for Link Community Development. (Note: I could not find the cost of a self-funded place.)

Best news is that your registration fee includes your Sumo Suit... They will send that out to you shortly after you register! (One size, fits all. If the suit is too small for you, you shouldn't be running for that distance, any way.)
