Four hours south of Moscow in Urga National Park lies the small village of Nikola-Lenivets. Once a failed farm collective, the rural town is now one of the most important sites of Russian contemporary art. Artist Nikolai Polissky led the vanguard in 1989 when he arrived as a painter and member of the underground Soviet art collective Mitki. Now the site boasts monumental land-art structures attuned to the seasons and harvests of the village.

Each year Nikola-Lenivets hosts the Archstoyanie Festival (Pronounced: arch-stow-yanni-yeh), the Russian equivalent of the USA's Burning Man Festival, with a particular focus on the interactions of art and landscape.

Unlike the transcendent nature of Burning Man (the day after the festival, there is no trace of it in the desert), the Archstoyanie festival strives for permanent art structures that fit into the landscape, as though nature had intended them to be there. Many of these artistic structures can be seen at The Nikola-Lenivets website calendar . The park also hosts year-round art events.

Trampoline street

However, only one of the permanent art structures will be our target for this week's Target Of The Week. It is a trampoline called "Fast Track", which is actually designed for the purpose of making people slow down and enjoy the act of "going somewhere".

Pure joy

And guess what---- it works. Guests to the park love to come and jump, bounce, walk, and hop down its length, just for the sheer joy of doing it.

The trampoline is 170 feet (51 meters) long and approximately 8 feet wide. It is made in 2014 by the Estoniian trampoline company, Salto (Spanish for "jump"), for the Archstoyanie Festival of a very tough, weather-resistant rubber compound and held in place by strong springs, placed approximately 10 inches apart, all along its path.
