The 3,1-kilometer-long bridge, which links the Russian city of Vladivostok to Russky Island, is billed as one of the biggest cable-stayed bridges in the world. The bridge, which is now operating in a test mode, will be opened for public transport on August 1. Medvedev in Vladivostok Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev arrived in in Vladivostok where he will meet with the state commissions on socio-economic development of the Far East, the Republic of Buryatia, Transbaikal Krai and Irkutsk Oblast. The Prime Minister will also be attending the opening of construction a new bridge, which, will connect Vladivostok through the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, with Russky Island. Prime Minister Medvedev will also view the condition of the state highway which was destroyed by a landslide on June 12th when he promised to find and punish the guilty, and promised to personally inspect the site. The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit will for the first time be held in Russia on September 8-9. People had an opportunity to walk across the bridge and take pictures. It will be opened all the weekend for walking and for transport traffic from August 13. The cable-stayed bridge across the bay is one of the constructions built in Vladivostok by the APEC summit. Together with the bridge to Russky Island, it will be the main part of the city's new transport system. Though for the size it is not so large as the bridge across the Eastern Bosphorus Strait, but it is the world's fifth. It is almost 1,400 metres long with 737 metres over the water. The 226-meter-high pylon supports hold the construction at the height of 60 metres over the water. The bridge links central Vladivostok with the city's Pervomaisky district.
