TARGET 120606
A GAME OF CAR DARTS
The dart board
Many people watch shows like "Dukes of Hazzard" and "James Bond" and see the cars make impossible arcs up into the air and over obstacles. The logical assumption is that they have built a special ramp that makes the car go up and over. But the reality is even stranger than that. They actually use a "car cannon" to fire them up into the air.
But, like any other cannon, the accuracy of it is dependent on "zeroing in" for a car to land on a targeted landing spot. This week's target shows the use of the car cannon for playing a game of darts using cars as the darts.
The British TV show "Top Gear" does some crazy stunts with cars, but this one might just take the grand prize. In this segment, hosts James May (the taller one) and Richard Hammond vie against each other by firing cars at a huge dartboard to see who gets the highest score.
James May fires first.
The location for the stunt
So they found a cliff above a quarry and set up their cannon.
They brought in six cars - three for each player.
They loaded and aimed the cannon.
And the dart is launched towards the dartboard.
Oooh!!! That was so close!!!
Well, the first shot was worth 35 points.
After Richard Hammond fires and only makes a 5-pointer,
Something brighter to aim for is brought in.
Shots keep being fired.
But the camping trailer remains safe... until....
...the very last car makes a bullseye.
And Richard wins with a score of 65 to 30 as
James looks down on a scene the likes of which
have never been seen in a dart game, before.
