Turkish Chefs Cook the World’s Largest Omelette

In an attempt to promote eggs as a healthy and cheap 
food source, and celebrate World Egg Day, Turkish 
chefs managed to set a new world record for the World’s 
Largest Omelette.

50 Turkish cooks, along with 1o chefs whisked 110,010 
eggs on a giant fryer, 10 meters in diameter. The 
omelette took 2.5 hours to cook, but I bet the people 
involved could think of no better way to celebrate World 
Egg Day. 432 liters of oil were needed to make this 
larger-than-life-dish nice and fluffy. The event was 
staged by the Turkish Egg Producers Association as a
way of promoting eggs as a tasty and healthy meal.

The giant omelette weighed 4.4 tons, beating the old
record of 3.625 tons, by almost a ton. After the offcial 
weighing, the omlette was served to the 
thousands of by-standers attracted by the smell.

Turkish Posta reports that the world’s biggest 
omelette was made in Turkey on the World Egg Day.

The omelette was cooked in a giant fryer which is 
10 metres in diameter. During the event, 65 cooks 
whisked 110,010 eggs to cook the omelette of 
4,400 kg using 432 litres of oil. It took 2.5 
hours to cook it. The omelette recipe was created 
by Suleyman Ascioglu, executive chef at Rixos 
Grand Ankara Hotel.

Carim Valerio of the Guinness Book of Records 
confirmed that it was the biggest omelette of 
the world.

The record breaking omelette has been brought 
to Ankara to celebrate World Egg Day 2010 and 
promote eggs as a healthy, affordable and easy 
to prepare food staple.

The Turkish Egg Producers Association staged 
the event to promote eggs as a healthy primary 
food source. Said the association’s president, 
Derya Pala: “After seeing our record-breaking 
omelette we hope that more people will be 
encouraged to make eggs a greater part of their diet”.

No word on whether bystanders’ composite 
cholesterol level spiked during the cook-off, 
but witnesses did report a low, guttural groan 
from the world’s vegans.

The previous record for the world’s largest 
omelette was held by Pick’n'Pay Retailers, 
Cape Town, South Africa, for their omelette 
which weighed 3,625 kg, contained 60,000 eggs 
and measured 14 metres in diameter.

On the NASDAQ, shares of Turkish bacon closed 
high after a sharp rise in demand.
