World's Hula Hoop Record Holder

Setting the world's record
An amazing demonstration

Jin Linlin set her Guinness World Record by simultaneously spinning a jaw-dropping 105 hula hoops in October 2007 and held it for almost 2 years, her record finally being broken in 2009 by Alesya Goulevich (Belarus) on 15 June 2009, with 107 hoops, only to have the record taken from him by Paul "Dizzy Hips" Blair in November of the same year with 132.

The Rules

These rules are for the greatest number of hula-hoops that can be spun by an individual simultaneously.

  1. Standard size and weight hula-hoops should be used for the attempt.
  2. The person attempting the record must hold all of the hula-hoops without assistance.
  3. He/she must be able to sustain a minimum of three full revolutions with all of the hoops remaining between shoulders and hips.
  4. The person making the attempt/item should be given, along with the date and place.
  5. Persons aged between 14 and 18 must, before competition, be in possession of a document signed by their parent or legal guardian, giving them permission to compete. This document must be added to the log book and witnessed before the attempt has started.
  6. A fully-qualified practising member of the medical profession must be present at all times watching the attempt.
  7. The entire attempt must be filmed on audio video.

  8. (If you want to break a record that is published in a record book or governed by an international authority, there may be other or additional rules.

Jin Linlin regularly manages up to 300 hoops at a time, but they are neither regular, nor can she possibly keep them all between her shoulders and hips, so the Guinness rules keep the feat from becomming a world's record. For such a feat, she uses especially thin and light-weight hoops. It would be impossible for her to manage the hoops, otherwise, because so many take up so much room, and she is a small person.

Just as champion skaters earn a living by giving demonstration performances, Jin Linlin regularly wows audiences at conventions and other special events.

You might think that the way to get so many hoops going at one time is to start with one or two and slowly add more. It doesn't work. The only way is to pile all the hoops on the floor, stand in the middle of them, pick them all up at once, and hope that their weight doesn't pull you off your feet once you start trying to swing them around your body. That, in itself is an amazing feat for this petite young woman.
