Buns and Guns

The Buns and Guns Cafe

The Buns and Guns Cafe

It's true that there is a good side to just about everything, and that everything offers the opportunity to take advantage of a situation.

The owner of a small local cafe in Beirut realized that his business was suffering because of the violence caused by terrorism. He also realized that it never happened in his part of the city.

So, at one point, he realized, "“They accuse us of terrorism, so let’s serve terrorist bread, why not?”

So he put up a perimeter of sand bags to "protect" the clients.

Guns everywhere
Weapons

Pictures of the latest weapons are posted throughout the cafe.

The restaurant looks like a military post. Sounds of machine-guns and bombs play throughout the cafe instead of music and the atmosphere of military operations are everywhere.

Set up in a Hezbollah-controlled area of Beirut, Buns and Guns started attracting customers on the first day it opened, with foods like “terrorist bread", "rocket propelled grenade" (chicken on a skewer), "Dragunov", "Kalashnikov", "Viper" and "B52". Their motto is "A sandwich can kill you."

The Buns & Guns Burger

The owner says the only way a Buns and Guns sandwich can kill somebody is by its generous size. The owner said that the whole purpose of the militant theme was to make people laugh (by ridicule of military things). As of October 2009, though, the restaurant had been closed. A new fast food restaurant, named 'Shoot', had opened up in its place. According to an employee, the restaurant had been sold a few months before. The theme of the new restaurant had no longer anything to do with guns, but was instead focused on sports ('Shoot' referring to a basket ball or a football, as seen in the new logo).
