Liberty's Little Sister

Telephoto shot
This Statue of Liberty is in Paris, near the Grenelle Bridge on the Īle des Cygnes, an island in the river Seine (48°51'0"N / 2°16'47"E). It is 11.50 m (37 feet 9 inches) high.

It was a model used by Barhtoldi during construction of the New York statue. It was bought by Americans living in Paris and was and given to France in appreciation for the Statue of Liberty France had given to the U.S. It was dedicated on November 15, 1889 and was positioned to face towards the Atlantic Ocean and hence towards its "big sister" in New York Harbor, which had been erected three years earlier.

Normal shot
The top photo was taken through a strong telephoto lens. If you were to go to the actual location of the statue, it would look more like you see in the picture directly above.

The tablet on this statue bears two dates:
"IV JUILLET 1776" (July 4, 1776: the date of the United States Declaration of Independence), just like the tablet her bigger sister holds in New York, and
"XIV JUILLET 1789" (July 14, 1789), the date of the storming of the Bastille).
