TARGET 090408

Annual Mooning of Amtrak Trains
Laguna Niguel, (Orange County) California, U.S.A.

Starting shot
Amie Mischel, left, and Tiffany Dotson, both of Mission Viejo, show off their derrieres for the northbound Amtrak train during the 30th annual mooning event near the landmark Mugs Away Saloon in Laguna Niguel, California.
There's so much going on in the world. Without the internet, you might never learn about such cultural events as ... a mass "mooning" of an Amtrack passenger train.

The tradition is said to have stemed from a pub dare in 1979 when a drinker at the nearby Mugs Away Saloon promised his friends drinks if they went out to the railway line and mooned the next passing train. Well, things like this have a way of becoming traditions, and this one has occurred annually on the second Saturday of July ever since.

Carol Wickenheisser, 75, left, of Cypress and her daughter Susan Branch, who made a special trip from Albuquerque, N.M., drop their drawers for the passing train with dozens of mooners who showed up to participate in the 30th annual event.

If this is what you would find an interesting way to spend a day, you can either participate in the event as a passenger on the train, or one of the mooners. The annual number of mooners has risen to around 8,000, and there's always room for more. Just behave yourself.

The event will happen all day Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Laguna Niguel, (Orange County) California, U.S.A., along the railroad tracks which run by Mugs Away Saloon, 27324 Camino Capistrano, #102; Laguna Niguel, (Orange County) California 92677.

And, if you're really turned on by this sort of thing, you can watch a video of it here . (Not viewed from the train side of the fence.)
