A Mystical Little Cottage By The Sea

A Mystical Cottage by the Sea
A quaint little cottage made out of sea shells baffled tourists when it it sprang up, almost overnight, on the dunes overlooking the Pembrokeshire coastline in west Wales.

The building on Freshwater West beach in Pembrokeshire will be featured in the final instalment of the seven hit wizarding films of Harry Potter. It is featured in chapter 25 of the final book, "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows".

The front of the cottage is made of old stone while the roof is made up entirely of large scallop shells.

Being built
Fans have rushed to the beach to get a sneak peak at the Potter cottage, and to watch it being built. Mother-of-three Helen Ross, from Haverfordwest, said:
"It's really exciting. My two older boys and I have read all the books and we know the Shell Cottage scene in the book well. They were thrilled when they found out it was being built and filmed here. To see the cottage take shape and how the film crew reproduce the shell effect is fantastic."
Residents hope the influx of glamorous stars will give local traders a much needed boost. Rob Lewis, Pembrokeshire council cabinet member for cultural services and tourism, said:
"The decision to film parts of the film in our county this summer is a fantastic development - which will bring benefits to our economy and the tourist industry. Such high-profile films with big stars bring with them huge film crews which can considerably boost an area's economy. It will particularly help many small businesses, which need all the help they can get in these difficult times. In addition, the films will also raise the profile of Pembrokeshire and highlight the natural beauty of our county, along with its wealth of historical treasures, to the wider world."
Fears that filming could damage the beach and close it off to public was dispelled by the National Park Authority.

Support buildings
Behind the dunes, where they will be well away from the camera's view, the film crew set up tents and trailers as rest places for the cast and cure, storage, and for the technical equipment needed to make the scenes of the cottage as realistic as possible.
