You Can't Bribe a Dog with a Dollar!

The Analogy:

The short version of the analogy is nothing more than a simple statement of fact:

“You can’t bribe a dog with a dollar.”

A longer analogy of the same principle is:

A young, new agent for the Farm Bureau showed up at a dairy farm, telling the farmer that he was going to do a surprise inspection on the farmer’s herd to make certain that all health regulations were being met.
"Well, we're all set up right now to breed the heifers," the farmer said, "You ought to come back tomorrow."
The young agent reacted violently to this, and yanked out a badge. “Look at this!” he yelled, “I’m a certified agent of the federal government! If I say that you have to stop and let me inspect right now, then you have to do it right now!”
The farmer looked at the youngster and his badge, then said, “Well, all right. What do you want to inspect?”
“The barn!” the young man demanded.
The farmer pointed across the fence to the barn, and said, “Well, it’s across the field, but I wouldn’t go there right now. You’ll have to wait until I get Fester penned up.”
“NOW!” the young man demanded. With that, the young agent climbed through the fence and started across the field. About that time, Fester, a large bull began to charge the young agent. The young agent ran and the bull chased.
As the agent rounded the field for about the fifth time, with the bull hot on his heels, he yelled to the farmer, “What do I do?”
The farmer, who was now leaning on the fence, chewing on a straw and watching the show yelled back, “Well, I don't think it'll make any difference to a horny bull, but you could try showing him your badge."

The Meaning of the Analogy:

I don’t know how many times people have tried to entice me into working the lottery for them or working the stock market for them, and in return they will give me part of the money so I can be rich. Never mind the fact that, if I worked the lottery for myself, I could keep all the money.

Or, they will tell me that they will give some of the money to my favorite charity. There are always people wanting to learn remote viewing so they can become rich by knowing the future or famous as a highly talented psychic. Or, they say, they want to gain a deeper understanding of themselves and have a richer, fuller life.

Their reasons for learning remote viewing are all good reasons, but they are the reasons of the conscious mind. “If I can communicate with my inner self,” they think, “I will be able to do great things.” They are rarely ever aware that their subconscious mind has its own desires, and they are even less often aware that the desires and motivations of their subconscious minds have very little to do with what they want and desire on a conscious level.

As they progress into CRV, they are often lured into the world of ARV (Associative Remote Viewing) , which is most often used for working the stock market or the lottery. They think (consciously) that the money they earn will give them more happiness, and it might well do that - but, like the dog in the analogy, you can't use a dollar to bribe the subconscious mind into doing things. So, they have a few initial successes, then either their desire to even do the work dries up and they walk away from it, or else their success dries up and they begin a long and frustrating series of "fixes". The person sometimes spends years trying to "solve the problem" with increasingly complex modifications to the methodology, never quite understanding the real problem.... the subconscious mind wasn't given what intices it. It did the work, and the conscious mind got all the rewards.

This is one of the most standard, most repeated, and most dependable patterns of behavior for people who venture into remote viewing. Just as they start to succeed, they either lose the desire to do it any more, or they start to fail. This is especially true of those who use ARV for a quick way to make money. The one underlying fact is that "You can't bribe the subconscious mind with a dollar."

The subconscious mind wants two things: it wants its reward immediately and it wants the reward to be something that IT can enjoy. It doesn’t give a hoot whether or not you have won any money. It can’t enjoy that. It doesn’t even care whether or not you have found a missing child or helped mankind, advanced science or gotten a criminal off the street. The knowledge of such feats is nothing but that – knowledge. That is something for the conscious mind to enjoy. “Give me a feeling!” it says. “Give ME a reward!”

Believe it or not, a simple bite of chocolate is more of a stimulus for the subconscious mind to continue working than all the money or all the 100% correct sessions in the world. A physical kiss or a hug for a job well done is infinitely more important to the subconscious mind than written or verbal praise or recognition you will ever receive. Ego stroking is for the conscious mind. Hugs are for the person within. You can't bribe a dog with a dollar - but a pat on the head or a scratch behind the ear gains you a friend for life.

In short, if you want to continue in this field, and want to continue to improve, you have to start bribing the dog with a bone. That is what IT wants. You have to find out what your “inner child” is after, and provide that as a reward. Struggling to hit the lottery, thinking that that will be all the reward you need is an exercise in self-defeat. When you have a truly successful session, take some time off to play ball with the kids, go get a hug from a loved one, or just sit back and have a piece of chocolate. Do that, and you'll find that there will be many more successful sessions to come.
